The above graphic represents a word cloud of approximately 20,000 tweets using the terms “Airbnb” and either “cheap” or “expensive.” Using Tag Crowd, I removed those search terms as well as “http, en, la, le, ne, ou, uau, ygv” to help clear away some other unimportant words.
Strangely, the largest word used is CO, however words like “travel” and “rental” and “beautiful” also make up a big portion of the word cloud.
Unfortunately the Twitter API only goes back a week, so it is impossible to see if people were tweeting about Airbnb during SXSW. A current search of Airbnb and Austin only yields approximately 7 results.
Airbnb tweets are also all over in the past week. Unfortunately, again, these tweets are not reflective of Austin or SXSW, where that map would be much more helpful. It is interesting to see how many international tweets are being made about Airbnb, however. I would’ve expected a higher concentration inside the United States, and not as much abroad.
