For my music app idea, I want to users to be able to match their personality with a specific genre of music. Taking the form of a survey, respondents would be able to answer a series of question about their general personality (political views, likes, dislikes etc.). Taking that data, the app music survey would determine what specific genres of music a person might like.
The article, “Preferred Music Style is Tied to Personality,” talks about how an individual’s self-esteem and social interactions plays role in determining what types of music they like or dislike. They suggest designing a questionnaire with basic psychology questions, asking how people might react in given social scenarios. Finally, by using the data collected, it would be nice to design a heat map that points users to general places around the country to find where performances of such music are most prominent.
