After thinking about everything we have learned thus far in the semester and trying to come up with an idea for a final project that incorporates a little bit of everything, it proved to be a little difficult. With having such a small class, I also thought it would be cool if we all contributed to create one giant, awesome project. That would be a little difficult to grade though if each one of us is creating something unique with different skill levels. Another problem with that is coming up with a common theme so everyone’s pieces fit together, not just some cluster of things.
I think it would be really cool to explore the Spotify API and see if we can come up with some story based on that. We could use it to find data on Texas musicians or the genre Texas Country. Depending on how accessible the API is, it would even be cool to see how many people have playlists with Texas music. Again, looking at it from the perspective of group work, it may be challenging to find 8 different stories using the Spotify API, maybe not.
Another idea that has many possible routes for telling a story would be about the financials the music industry has on different areas. We could somehow chart the revenue of businesses throughout the year, seeing if they increase more than usual during events like ACL or SXSW. There are multiple websites out there that relate to music and data and charting that we can draw some inspiration from.
