Hello class!
For the the final project I would really like to focus on using data from social media. I think it would be best to focus on Twitter (because we have spent some time learning how to really use it), but perhaps looking at YouTube analytics or even Facebook may be useful as well. Alex brought up the Spotify API which could be interesting too but I haven’t had a chance to look at it much.
I thought of a couple ideas:
- Looking at a specific band as a case study: Charting Twitter activity around a certain band when they are in Austin for a concert. Do they gain followers? Get more local RT’s than normal? If they suggest a hashtag to fans, do they use it?
- Looking at a specific venue as a case study: (This may be sort of what Beth has suggested.) Looking at social media activity based around concerts at a certain venue.
- With the Spotify API
For any of these, filtering the tweets will take some work, but I think it would be really cool to see the patterns in tweets focused around the Austin music scene.
Final Project Brainstorming
