For the final project I want to do a feature on hip/hop music. I want to take a look at the genre on the national level before I focus on the different regional scenes in Texas. I’m not exactly sure of the data I will use but it most likely will be things about sub-genres, artists, and album sales. I want to look at how hip hop has grown over the years in popularity and sales. I’ll probably find this data using Spotify and/or Echo Nest API’s, as well as making use of data available from Billboards album sales records.
Ultimately I want to narrow down the scope of the story onto San Marcos and/or Austin. I have a few hip hop artists I can interview that live in San Marcos and Texas State has a chapter of Hip Hop Congress on campus that I’d like to talk to.
I’d like to include survey results of Texas State students favorite artists and genres on the site. This would be easy to gather info on campus that I could create a simple/fun visualization for to include on the site.
I also want to create a visual map of the different hip hop regions in the Nation.
