Music Venues In Austin By District
Highcharts was my favorite data visualization tool for this charting exercise because of its user and visual simplicity. The pie chart I created using this tool reflects my final project pitch. I would like to focus on Austin music venues, specifically the history: structure, ownership and patronage. I want to be a fly on the wall and tell the untold stories, all the makeups, breakups, hookups, fights, injuries, fires, etc. Which Austin music venue gets the most cop/ambulance/fire truck visits? For what reasons? How many and what type of injuries have occurred during what particular genre of music/bands at what music venues? How many people have met their spouse at Austin music venues?
I think there’s a correlation to all of my questions above and venue size, which is why I created the chart below using information about the capacity of some Austin area (Bee Cave and Cedar Park included) music venues from austincitypermits.com. The data isn’t perfect (there are some well-known music venues who don’t list their capacity on this or their own websites). I created the chart below as a way to confirm my belief that Austin has more small, independent music venues that may help foster relationships and niche audiences (and regular patronage, including bands).
