I’ll be honest: I only tweet when I’m forced to, either for work or school. I had to Google search whether or not AP Style capitalizes the “T” in tweet. I have another confession: I really can’t stand birds of any kind, especially blue jays, and their tweeting.

Maybe if my phone’s screen wasn’t cracked and I could use the middle part of it then I’d Tweet more. Or, maybe if I knew how to condense my thoughts (I tend to ramble).

So, Simon, why is it important to tweet? (Call me selfish, but I’d rather have both hands on my car’s steering wheel during a traffic jam than Tweet about it. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely considered it when I was stuck in Los Angeles traffic for about three hours last summer when part of the 5 was blocked off because of a fatal vehicle accident.)

What is the importance of including such verbage in a Twitter bio as “all opinions are my own,” “retweets aren’t an endorsement,” etc.? Is it important to include something like this, especially in a personal account?

How do we educate ourselves and the public about how to read, analyze, and critique data?

At what age do you believe children should be educated and exposed to data? What types of data?

How often do you tweet?

On a personal note: why did you leave the Guardian? What do you believe to be your best work for the Guardian and why? What are the origins of the Guardian Datablog? How familiar are Guardian reporters with data and how often would you say they used it (effectively or ineffectively) in their work? How closely did the Guardian’s data team work with reporters? Do you believe it’s important for reporters to incorporate data in their work? If so, why? When did you become interested in data? Were any data or coding courses being taught when you attended City University and, if so, were you enrolled in any of these courses?

And, lastly, what is your opinion of the image to our right?   image
