I graduated last May from Texas State with a public relations major and decided to stick it out a couple more years. My experience and love for mass comm and my current job at a public relations firm in Austin are what compel to  keep taking classes such as this one. I have always loved to code and research (a.k.a stalk) and can thank Myspace for that. Who would have know that those skills could actually being an asset for a career now a days.

The concept of what data journalism is was introduced to me last semester through another class by Dr. Royal. Yet I dealt with it everyday, I just did not know it had the fancy name. Journalism needs the support of data to have an effect on its readers. It gives us the ability to be informed and learn something of how we work as a collective as well. Data is out there , the only thing necessary is to mold it and spin for readers to enjoy.

Data can be readily applied to music for the benefit of the consumer. There is so much music happening in the central Texas area that keeping up can be a hassle. The amount of times I have missed a band I like because I could not keep up with the information is an everyday occurrence. It would be an interesting idea if bands would offer special sneak peak emails to people who are fans from specific bands on social media platforms. The band would find out who their consumer is and would learn how to market toward it.

Wouldn’t a interactive band guide like this parking lot spaces in downtown Austin be ever so useful?
