What a great Mass Comm Week! I always love this event because it really challenges student’s professionalism and makes them question their skill set and career moves. I believe the best way to experience the week is attend a mix panels with media professionals and a few from other professionals. For example, I attended the “Trending in Texas…” panel with Lloyd Potter, the Texas demographer.

I also got a chance to listen to a futurist (yes, that is her title) and how media trends will occur based on the next big generational shifts. We went over the basics of the past generations but her analysis of Generation Z, those born 2004-present, was very interesting. She said this generation will only know the digital world and thus crave face-to-face, authentic relationships, with people in general and the media they consume. Definitely good points to hold onto in the coming years.

All the panels were great and the session I look forward to the most is the meet n’ greet. Its the one time I can talk with professors and pick their brains without the agenda of class work. The same can be said for the awesome professionals and advisory council there. During a panel they have a set idea of how things will go. During the meet n’ greet the setting is much more relaxed and can morph from talking shop to hard core networking.

Who knows what will come out of Mass Communication Week 2015!
