Yes, I was born and raised in Texas. I’m trying to neutralize my Southern dialect by saying “you all” instead of “y’all.” A pet peeve of mine is when people spell it “ya’ll.”

I was once asked to be a tambourine player in a travelling band. Unfortunately, I said no, and I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

My last name is pronounced GAWS Pooray; Gass is supposedly German and Poore’ is supposedly French, even though I’ve had French people tell me it’s not. But what do they know.

I’m a Texas State English, mass communication senior.

On another note, I would like to explore the idea of some Texas bands claiming they’re “from” Austin, even though they were born and raised somewhere else in the state — maybe even in another state, like California (ew) — through an app. This app would function similar to a typical online aggregator for Texas bands. This information could also be mapped and offer an option for supplemental rollover information about the band, which could also lead to where they’ve played the most in Austin, where they’ve been spotted in Austin, maybe even where they live in Austin. It would be interesting to include brief sound bites from these band members about why they claim Austin as the band’s home. Social media would be utilized to find out which bands claim they’re from this city. The app could be called “I’m From Austin.”

I also think it would be interesting to see if any Texas bands would be interested in collaborating on this project. If so, it would be interesting to spend a day with them as they prepare for a gig, tour, recording session, etc. and document it live for feedback from fans.

I like Jesse’s idea about the growth and change of specific Austin venues utilizing attendance data from both bands and fans, as well as his Hook 1 and 2, which could possibly be combined.
