I did my final project on ACL Festival. I spent weeks compiling data on all the lineups of the 14 years of the festival entering data on where each band was from and their genres. I scraped wikipedia’s ACL Festival page to get all the line ups and then manually put in all the data about each band. Then I went through all of this data and found ways to organize it that would show trends in how the festival has evolved.
I created high charts showing the changes in genre representation over the years and another one showing changes in local vs international artists at the festival. There is an Overview page featuring these graphs and a few paragraphs describing the overall changes at the festival. The Yearly Breakdown page features a drop down that allows you to select any year of the festival and view it in detail. When you select a year it will show a few key highlights about the year, featured artists that I thought made the year unique or special, an official poster from each year and a pin map showing where the line up came from each year. On the homepage you will find a bit of backstory about the begining of the festival and the producers, C3 Presents. There is also a video page with a slideshow of video recaps and other ACL videos going back to 2009 (I couldn’t find any video recaps for years before 2009).
I have spent countless hours on this project over the last few weeks and it is finally becoming something I’m proud of. Having said that, there are still a few things I need to clean up and fix on the site. Its all there but a few styling things with images and different elements need to be cleaned up. Between graduation, work and the 2 shows I’ve been booked to play this weekend I will not have time to fix them until later this week. When I do that I will also update this blog post and include some more detail about the challenges I faced with the project (there were a lot of challenges).
Thanks for all you taught me this semester. I will let you know when I get the chance to update and conitinue fixing this project.
