Hi there everyone, my name is Justin Joe and I am a senior Public Relations major. I’m a sort of “backstage” music junkie, I used to help my dad record and edit music in our spare bedroom. I also collect vinyls, but lately I’ve gotten more and more picky on who I collect!
When I got Sara’s new vinyl (pictured), it included a card for the MP3 version, which surprisingly didn’t cost extra. The most interesting I’ve ever gotten along with a disc was a branding book, complete with perforated paint card samples that had each band member’s signature color on it. These days, I’m seriously confused on whether the physical CD or vinyl has become “part of the show” or really counts towards artists’ sales statistics. I suppose that with social media, fans are looking for the same amount of interactivity when they buy a record or CD. It appears MP3 cards, branding books, paint samples and signatures are the answer. Hey, that just means more collector’s items!
