The case study from the “Data Journalism Handbook” that I found most interesting was “Citizen Data Reporters.” This case study focused on two citizen journalists and the work they conducted that utilized simple data. The results from this case study are as follows:

-Data can be used to help make a difference locally and impact change

-Value in small datasets and tables

Although this example of interactive data visualization doesn’t incorporate small datasets and/or tables it’s visually appealing and eyeopening:

“Gay rights in the US, state by state”: The Guardian

The same can be said for this example:

“How Much Hospitals Charge For the Same Procedures”: The New York Times

I’m planning on incorporating the following story ideas from this case study into work I create with San Marcos and Austin-based media outlets:

-What are the numbers of doctors in the city compared to the number of city residents?

-Is there a lack of city health information?

-What are the number of vehicles in the city and the amount of taxes paid by those vehicle owners?

Piktochart is a good website that may help in creating a visual representation for these story ideas.
