I took a dataset that was filled to the brim with every state’s Computer Science A exam list and each state’s numbers of who took it. It was divided by pass rates, race, and gender. This was an interesting data set to view, because while the information is valuable it fluctuated year to year. In most states with every passing year there were more applicants than the year before and a higher number that passed. However, if you notice in the year 2013 chart you will see that Mississippi and Wyoming had zero applicants for the test in 2013. There was a decline and perhaps a decrease in educated funding or their were less than 5 applicants. Which the state would not count. Further research would be necessary to find a conclusion for such a drastic decrease in applicants.
I filtered the data into four distinct pieces so that you can see the difference as well as the percentage of women who are taking these exams. Currently it is still a male dominated profession, but the numbers seem to be rising from each state’s previous year, respectively.
