Unfortunately, because of my schedule I have only been able to attend two mass comm events so far, but both were really good.

1019151359The first was entrepreneurial Thinking with Chris Perez of Citygram and Left Right Media. He gave a very inspiring presentation that included tips for venturing out into the media business. His story is quite impressive as he moved upwards from company to company very quickly to being where he is today. Although I’m not very entrepreneurial and I’m not planning on starting a business, Chris’ advice is still relevant and I will take it. There were quite a few things that stuck out to me. “The best people are always learning.” I can’t remember if that was a quote from him or someone else, but I think it’s really important especially in our field that is always changing. Chris talked about knowing and using different skills and i think that is also something that we learn in our program. As much as I didn’t care for them, all the T.V. and radio classes that were required for my major really taught me a lot of different skills. I’m thankful to know all these different skills and I’m sure they will help me in the future in one way or another.

1020151704aThe next event I attended was actually in my T.V News class. Trisha Espinoza of B.E.T and David Goins from WFAA-TV in Dallas stopped by for a Q&A. Their presentation was also very inspiring seeing as they are both Texas State alumni. They gave some really good advice on how to get into two very different kinds of fields in media. Trisha’s side was very business and management oriented while David’s was broadcast. Even though neither of those are on my radar (as of now, but who knows), their advice can still be applied all over the field.

Tomorrow and Thursday I’m really going to hit the ground running and hopefully get to see and hear some more inspirational speeches. I’m super excited!
