As one of the other people in class mentioned, the Austin Music Census offers a clear insight into the difficulties venues have been experiencing lately: making enough money to stay open. With rising rent prices and a general unwillingness by the population of Austin to pay cover charges, most venues only experience a 6-15% profit margin.Austin seems to be waking up to the problem: an article on the Austin Culture Map releases a call to action as two famous venues threaten to go out of business, and they cite rising rent prices for the closure.

I believe a good way to utilize the data in the census would be to create a map of Austin with a slider that goes across years, showing the rate at which new venues open and close to make clear the difficulties plaguing venues in Austin lately. Additionally, a way to look at rent prices in different areas of Austin where popular venues are hosted would be a viable alternative.
