For my music app idea, I played around with the Web API offered by Spotify , they allow access to artists’ history, followers, popularity and so on. I thought it would be interesting to have an interactive visualization with clickable genres of music, then once clicked lists popular artists within that genre and then further expands to the artist’s history. I would have to use the popularity numbers from Spotify to decide which artists would expand from each genre and then use the biography’s for each artist from Spotify to choose interesting historical facts about each artist.
I got some inspiration for this idea from a Spotify Development by Paul Lemere. It has moving circles of different genres and when clicked plays an example of the genre and links to genres that extend from it. The code is available to use on GitHub . Other spotify developments featured on Spotify’s developer showcase were all of huge help as well.
